Labor and birth have caught my attention since I had my first child
six years ago. Those experiences have remolded me each time, and
each baby was and is miracle flesh and spirit melded together (in a
really cute way.) Having been through the births of my three
children, I can safely say that I will never forget each of those
precious memories. Hearing my children cry and getting to hold them
after each unique labor and birth were three of the most ecstatically
happy times of my life.

Guess what? I did it with the help of a doula (and great midwives)
each and every time. Also, I know that the Creator of the Universe
and angels from above helped me give birth, but I don't impose my
spiritual beliefs on others. When it comes down to it: I believe
that women should be helping other women to give birth. We're all in
this together; there is one big sisterhood. I am your temporary
"sister" in labor, because I try to just be there and help you in any
way that I can.

Husbands can help too, of course, but doulas can help husbands know
how best to help...("Maybe try massaging her neck right now while I
get her feet...." "I bet she would like another sip of juice." "If
you need to take a break for a snack, I can help talk your wife
through this contraction.") After all, this is all new to your husband
as well and it can be overwhelming for him as well.

Those who know and love you might have difficulty seeing you hurt
(emotionally or physically) during labor, and giving them the help of
a doula is one of the best things you can do to increase love and
peace in your relationship and future family (not to mention the best
gift you can give yourself!)

I feel that it is an honor to help a woman (hopefully) breeze through
labor and birth using aromatherapy, breathing exercises, massage,
chanting, meditations, or other pain coping tools. I can also suggest
helpful position changes, bring a birth ball and special labor aide
drinks, or just hold your hand while you center and focus on each
wave.

During the birth, I am available to take pictures or remind your staff
about wishes on your birth plan, such as having the baby put
immediately on your chest and delaying shots, drops in the eyes, etc.
so that you can savor this first wonderful meeting with the baby!
After all your hard work, you certainly deserve that!

I believe in helping you make wonderful memories and am happy to write
up my "view" of the birth in the days afterward.
