Vanessa Earhart, CD-DONA

Let me introduce myself. My name is Vanessa Earhart and I have been married for twelve years to my wonderful husband Dave and together we have two children, a son (11) and a daughter (6).  Dave and I met while we were serving in the United States Marine Corps and doing a tour in Okinawa, Japan.  Since Dave is from Texas and I am from Wisconsin, we have spent the last several years between the two states.  Recently we have decided to make West Bend, WI our home.

I took Doula training and DONA approved Child Birth classes in San Antonio, TX in May of 2006 and have been a DONA member since June and Doula-certified since June of 2008.  I have always known that birth is an unforgettable key life experience for a mother, and after having my own children, it became a heartfelt passion. It is my absolute joy to help women have a loving and satisfying birth experience. 

With my first child's birth, I was completely at the mercy of my care providers.  I had high hopes for that birth and walked into the hospital trusting that all my wishes would be met with eagerness and professionalism. What I received instead was a doctor eager to hit the golf course (he actually told me that!). His impatience did not allow my body the freedom to work on its own behalf and it left me feeling discouraged and defeated.  I remember wondering if other women's experiences were similar or if I was making something out of nothing - after all, my baby was born "healthy". 

Thankfully however, with my second child I had a team that worked, supported and validated my desires and concerns.  I felt empowered, in control, and on top of the world.  I felt that every woman deserved to feel the same way. 

From my personal birth experiences grew a passion and desire to support women and their partners, and help them create the best possible maternity care that would lead to improved physical outcomes and emotional well being of mothers and infants.

As your doula, I will be by your side to support and assist you in creating the best possible birth memories before and during labor. With my understanding of the birth process and a woman's emotional needs in labor, I will help you and your partner prepare and carry out your birth plans. My role also includes helping you gather information so you can make informed choices and will help facilitate communication as needed with the clinical care providers.  I am here to nurture and protect you through your experience and  I'm available for home and hospital births throughout most of southeastern WI.
