Level 1 (45 hours) of this training is appropriate for aspiring or experienced yoga teachers, doulas, midwives, OB’s, labor and delivery nurses, other birth workers and expectant/established mommas. Level 2 (40 hours) requires 200 hr YTT and includes deeper learning of restorative postures for pregnancy, guided imagery for before and after the birth journey, as well as asana and ayurvedic self-care practices specific to the unique needs of the postpartum person.
In the training, students will learn physical anatomy of the female pelvis, of pregnancy, of birth, and of postpartum healing. Trainees will learn to order a class keeping in mind the pregnant body, the major openings of the spine, and the four corners (hips and shoulders), all within a class organized by the rhythm of birth. 10 major poses will be the foundation for learning the nature of the pregnant body, throughout three trimesters, in different poses. These 10 poses will then become the foundation for creating a yoga sequence to teach first to other trainees and then to a live class.
In addition, the training will address ethical issues such as creating a consent culture in our yoga class, issues of inclusivity, and the question “Who am I serving?” We will also have the guidance of a Certified Nurse Midwife and others in the relationship between prenatal yoga teachers and students’ care providers.
